Statement of support for GFest
I congratulate Gaywise for coordinating the GFest lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) Arts Festival. Now in its second year, GFest provides important opportunities for the capital’s LGBT and queer-identified artists, performers and filmmakers – as well as others from across the globe – to showcase their work.
It is fitting that GFest takes place in the capital. London has the largest, most diverse community in Europe, and already hosts a series of high-profile LGBT events, including Pride, the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and LGBT History Month. The festival also encourages London’s theatres and museums to review their programmes and make them more attractive to LGBT Londoners – this is important in a city where at least 10% of the population is gay and lesbian.
I wish the festival every success and encourage Londoners to get involved.
